Channels are opened via lateral slits in the thinning area in the direction of growth.
Hair transplantation methods are divided into two groups: FUE and FUT
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Method
FUE is the procedure in which individual follicles are removed from the nape of the neck or other body parts, such as chest and back,by means of punches of 0.8-1 mm diameter. The primary advantages of the FUE method in comparison with the FUT technique are that no incision or pain occurs in the donor area and recovery is quick. The hairs thus removed are transplanted into the thinning area one by one via micro-surgical tools.
ADVANTAGES OF FUE
1. Hairs are selected from both the nape of the neck and the areas above the ears.
2. As a micromotor is used to remove the follicles, the donor area recovers quite quickly and the surgeon is capable of extracting a greater number of hairs in a shorter period of time.
3. 4,000 to 8,000 hairs can be transplanted in a single session.
4. As the follicles are removed individually,no incision or pain occurs in the donor area.
5. As the follicles are removed in the form of micro-grafts,the recipient area recovers rapidly with no incision.
6. The day after the hair transplantation the patient can return to his/her daily life and work environment.
7. Swelling does not occur in the forehead or head, nor is there bruising around the eyes subsequent to hair transplantation.
8. One week after the hair transplantation the patient appears as though no surgical intervention was ever made.
Thanks to modern surgical technology, patients can achieve a truly natural appearance following hair transplantation.Psychological problems and social alienation are among the primary adverse effects of hair loss, and these can be avoided via hair transplantation, thus restoring the patient’s self-esteem.
Who can have hair transplantation?
People with sufficient hair on the back and sides of the head are eligible for hair transplantation. Both FUT and FUE can be used on such people.Another group of candidates for hair transplantation comprises people with sufficient hair in other areas such as the chest or legs. The method used on this group is FUE.As modern techniques have significantly contributed to the improvement of hair transplantation surgery, most men previously ineligible for hair transplantation have now become suitable candidates.Larger grafts, which used to result in an unnatural appearance, have been replaced by smaller grafts that lead to natural results, and new tools have also enabled surgeons to achieve a natural appearance suiting the patient’s own appearance.
Hairs from the back and sides of the head,“donor areas”,continue to grow and do not fall out. The transplantation of these follicles to the thinning area does not change their growth or permanence. In other words, the fact that these follicles do not fall out is not related to their location but stems from their own genetic attributes. Donor dominance is a scientific basis that ensures success in hair transplantation.
Who cannot have hair transplantation?
Hair transplantation is not age-specific.Nevertheless,hair transplantation as a surgical intervention cannot be carried out on people with diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease requiring the use of dialysis, liver disease or severe heart disease.
Is hair transplantation painful?
As hair transplantation is made under local anaesthetic, the patient feels no pain. When the local anaesthetic wears off(within the same day)the patient does not need to use painkillers.
How is post-operative care carried out?
Subsequent to hair transplantation, hair should be washed regularly until the scabs disappear. The shampoo is spread evenly on the head and the hair is gently washed with small,massage-like movements, without pressing against the scalp.
Are there any side effects of hair transplantation?
Rare side effects of hair transplantation include bleeding, infection, vesicle development, failure of hair growth and scarring.Modern hair transplantation surgery is easy and simple for the patient and the results are perfect.Hair loss occurs in the majority of men until the age of 40 to 45 as a result of testosterone secretion. In men, of the hairs on the head also become thinner after the age of 40 to 45.Thanks to modern techniques, higher numbers of hairs can be transplanted over a smaller number of sessions.
