Natural Hair

The appearance and naturalness of the hair depends on the direction of growth and the growth angle. What is important at this stage is to open channels in the direction of growth and to use the angle of existing hairs for guidance in the creation of new channels.

Who are the candidates for hair transplantation?

Hair transplantation is most often performed on men with male-pattern hair loss(hair loss associated with aging, hormones and genetic heritage). Therefore, hair transplantation is the most common cosmetic intervention in men.In addition, people with thinning areas in their hair or eyebrows due to burns, who have previously had hair transplantation with unsatisfactory results, who have hairless sections subsequent to a face lift or due to a previous disease or who suffer from female-pattern hair loss are candidates for hair transplantation.

Who should perform hair transplantation?

The hair transplantation should be performed by health professionals specialised in hair transplantation under the supervision of plastic surgeons.

Where and under what circumstances is hair transplantation made?

Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure, hence should be carried out in an operating theatre so as to prevent any possible complications.Theatres can only operate within a hospital environment.

What are the potential complications?

Hair transplantation appears to be a simple procedure, but it requires the same level of care paid to other surgical interventions. Thus, local anacosmetic drugs administered should be chosen by a professional anacosmetic and measures should be taken to prevent the emergence of any emergency such allergic incidences.

Who is eligible for hair transplantation?

At the initial consultation,a hair loss pattern and donor area assessment is made, and then the decision will be taken as to whether the patient is eligible for hair transplantation.People with healthy hair on the nape of the neck are ideal candidates for hair transplantation.

How much hair is needed?

The amount of hair needed is determined by the doctor as a result of a hair analysis. Subsequent to the evaluation of hair loss pattern, areas prone to thinning can be treated with hair supplementation. In cases where a single session is not sufficient, the best results are usually achieved after the second session.

How will hair transplantation affect my daily life?

After hair transplantation is complete, the donor area is covered with a bandage for the first night. When the hair is washed and checked the following day,the bandage is removed. The scabby appearance of the recipient area will disappear within seven to 10 days thanks to washing. This area may be covered with a hat or beret during this time.

Does an age limit exist for hair transplantation?

Hair loss pattern, rather than age, plays the determining role in surgical intervention. If the skin has become visible when looked at with naked eye,it means the hair density in the area has reduced to less than 50%.The most effective treatment in this case is hair transplantation.

Where does the importance of age stem from in hair transplantation?

The most important aspect affected by age is whether hair loss has stopped or not. Although male-pattern hair loss is a lifelong incidence, the speed of hair loss decreases a lot after the age of 35.It should be underlined that younger patients may require a second or third hair transplantation session, since their hair loss will continue.

How long does the procedure last?

Hair transplantation takes six to eight hours. If the patient wishes to hide hair transplantation from his/her social environment, this will take approximately seven days.If the patient does not have such concerns,s/he can return to daily life within one day of the procedure.

When do new hairs start to grow?

Red scabs will be seen on the area to which transplantation has been made. Washing your hair once a day will prevent the development of these red scabs. These will be lost completely within seven days. The transplanted hairs also fall out along with the scabs. Thus within two to four weeks the patient looks like as s/he did prior to hair transplantation. The patient’s appearance then remains the same for up to three months.New hairs then start to grow. The change in the patient’s appearance is most visible in the fifth to sixth months. The complete new growth of hair may take up to one year in some cases.Nutrition and psychological health are important factors playing a vital role in terms of hair growth subsequent to hair transplantation.

Are there any disadvantages to the patient’s overall health?
Surgical intervention is rather a risk-free procedure, performed under local anacosmetic.Side effects that may adversely affect overall health have not yet been observed.

Can hair transplantation be made more than once?

Hair transplantation may require more than one session, depending on the size of the recipient area and level of continuing hair loss.

Can the appearance of new hair be controlled?

The result of the hair transplantation entirely depends on the technique employed. The size of the grafts and their direction at the time of transplantation determine the result. When the grafts are inserted at the right size and in line with the hair’s own direction of growth, the result is usually a truly natural appearance.

What new techniques are employed in hair transplantation?

The most modern technique in this area is Follicular Unit Extraction(FUE),in which individual follicles of hair are removed from the nape of the neck or body by means of a micromotor via micro-punches,i.e.,with no incision, and each follicle is then reinserted back in to channels opened with incision-free lateral slits in the thinning area on the scalp.

Are further future developments likely that will replace hair transplantation for a more natural appearance?

As regards male-pattern hair loss, hair transplantation is currently the most effective treatment.Studies on hair cloning continue;however,no remarkable result has yet been achieved. If this technique becomes successful,it will be possible to transplant hairs to the thinning area without restriction,as follicles removed from the donor area will be multiplied in a laboratory.
